Joseph Young, MD

Dr. Joseph Young is a board-certified internal medicine physician who specializes in addiction medicine. Dr. Young cares for patients ages 18 years and older throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.

He provides comprehensive care for substance use disorders, with particular expertise in opioid, stimulant, sedative-hypnotic (depressant), and alcohol use disorders. Dr. Young is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that supports recovery and long-term health.

Dr. Young's approach to medicine is guided by a mission to reduce the stigma associated with addiction, provide patients with proven treatments to relieve their suffering, and educate fellow physicians on best practices for caring for individuals with substance use disorders.

In addition to clinical care, Dr. Young has a research interest related in addiction medicine, including the study of opioids, stimulants, alcohol use disorders, and withdrawal.

Dr. Young serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He is also a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Young comes from a large family as one of eight children, and carries on a legacy of healthcare, with both a great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who practiced as country doctors in Wyoming.
