Dr. Haberman wrote me off early in the visit. I chose her for a provider due to being both OBGYN and family medicine. When I asked about certain hormone therapy, she clearly was not up to date on the newer recommendations. Instead of asking me what I've read or heard about the therapies, I was dismissed and referred to endocrinology (and then endo stated they weren't the correct speciality and that I should see someone in OBGYN). A simple "tell me more" is something that should be in every provider's vocabulary. I graduated with a biochemistry and molecular biology BS degree at 19 years old. I turned down medical school to pursue a career that I felt would be more flexible and less bureaucratic. I listen to podcasts created by MDs and PhDs for fun. I read NIH papers. But when I simply said I was listening to a podcast, the conversation was shut down because she assumed I was listening to Dr. Google. I felt very judged and belittled. It is ok for a provider to not know everything about everything. But instead of acting like you do, take a step back and say that you're not sure but you'll look into it.
