Joseph Cumming, MD

The Society of Hospital Medicine defines a hospitalist as a physician who delivers comprehensive medical care to acutely ill, hospitalized patients. Dr. Joseph Cumming is a hospitalist who treats adult patients at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. He engages in evidence-based medical practices and offers services such as paracentesis and point-of-care ultrasound.

Dr. Cumming is a clinical instructor of internal medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

His research interests include improving medical education and improving patient outcomes in the hospital by minimizing unnecessary tests and procedures.

Dr. Cumming is a member of the American College of Physicians.

Outside of work, Dr. Cumming enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, playing guitar, tennis and table tennis, and landscaping. He also has a private pilot's license.
