After finishing his residency, Dr. Nelson completed a fellowship at the Rothman Institute of Orthopedics specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. After three years of clinical practice dedicated to shoulder surgery, Dr. Nelson obtained further training in hip and knee replacement at the Missouri Orthopedic Institute in Columbia, MO before returning to St. Louis to join SSM Health.
Dr. Nelson treats shoulder complaints for patients 18 years of age and older and performs hip and knee replacements for patients over 50. His greatest clinical interest is innovation in shoulder replacement. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the clinical liaison for the orthopedic department's care of traumatized patients. He is also a member of the American Orthopedic Association's Emerging Leaders Program.
