Joseph Platz, MD

Dr. Joseph Platz is a thoracic surgeon who offers surgical treatment for lung cancer, tumors of the esophagus and mediastinum, reflux disease, hernias of the diaphragm, and other conditions affecting the lungs and chest cavity. He performs lung resections, mediastinal tumor resections, pleural and intrapleural interventions.

Dr. Platz uses innovative techniques in his practice, including minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, to reduce pain, scarring and recovery time.

Dr. Platz is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Outside of work, Dr. Platz enjoys skiing. He previously worked in the field of information technology.
