Jarna Shah, MD

Dr. Jarna R. Shah is board-certified in pain medicine and anesthesiology. She cares for patients 18 years of age and older throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Dr. Shah is dedicated to helping adults living with chronic pain restore function, improve quality of life, and return to the activities that matter most to them.

Dr. Shah is particularly passionate about caring for women with chronic pain conditions, including pelvic pain, pudendal neuralgia, chronic abdominal and pelvic pain syndromes, and other complex pain disorders that have historically been underrecognized or undertreated. She believes every patient deserves to be heard and takes a compassionate, individualized approach to care that combines careful listening, comprehensive evaluation, and evidence-based treatment.

Her practice emphasizes opioid-sparing strategies and multidisciplinary care. Dr. Shah offers a full spectrum of non-surgical and minimally invasive pain treatments, including spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, nerve blocks, migraine therapies, vertebral augmentation procedures, and advanced neuromodulation techniques such as spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, and peripheral nerve stimulation. She works closely with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan focused on improving function, reducing pain, and enhancing overall well-being.

Her research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with complex pain conditions through innovative procedural therapies, neuromodulation, and advancing care for women's pain disorders.

Dr. Shah is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and serves as Division Chief of Pain Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She is an active leader in national pain medicine organizations, serves as a social media editor for the journal Anesthesia & Analgesia, and frequently contributes to education and advocacy efforts within the field of pain medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Shah enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
