Janice Cain is a clinical psychologist with specialized training in cognitive-behavioral therapy and as a health psychologist. She works with ages 12 - elderly. As a health psychologist she works with patients who have medical issues such as chronic pain, cancer, headaches, diabetes, neurological issues such as epilepsy, insomnia, and gastrointestinal problems. She also completes neuropsychological evaluations for conditions such as ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and dementia. She works closely with SSM Health's Pain Clinic and Neurosurgery Department. She also offers biofeedback training which can be helpful for a number of conditions such as headaches and anxiety. She is currently leading a Pain Coping Skills group which is designed as a tool to help individuals learn improved strategies to help them manage their chronic pain. Janice Cain has a passion for the mind/body connection and how each affects the other.
With her training in CBT, she emphasizes helping individuals examine their thoughts and behaviors that might be contributing to their difficulties. Then the person is taught and coached to replace these thoughts/behaviors with healthier options. Although there is a brief amount of time spent examining how those unhelpful habits developed, the major emphasis is the here and now and making changes accordingly. She encourages people to use active, direct coping skills to help manage the distress in their lives.
Janice Cain received her PhD from Washington State University in Clinical Psychology. She completed her internship in clinical psychology at the University of Oklahoma in 1996 and her post-doctoral residency in medical psychology at Oregon Health Science University in 1998.
