Annie Chu, MD General Surgery in Mount Vernon, IL

Dr. Annie Chu is a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in advanced gastrointestinal (GI), minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and bariatric surgery. She cares for adults ages 18 and older throughout the Southern Illinois area.

Dr. Chu provides general surgery, acute care surgery, bariatric surgery, bariatric medicine, and robotic-assisted surgery. Her clinical interests include gallbladder disease, hernia repair, GI and foregut conditions, and both surgical and medical weight loss treatment.

Dr. Chu became a surgeon to help people through some of the most challenging moments of their lives. She believes that combining expert surgical care with compassion can help patients feel informed, supported, and less anxious throughout their treatment. This same passion led her to bariatric surgery, where she finds it especially rewarding to help patients improve their health, regain mobility, and return to the activities they enjoy. Seeing patients overcome limitations and achieve lasting change is one of the most meaningful parts of her work.

She is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Chu is also passionate about medical education and contributing to the training of future healthcare professionals.

Originally from a small rural town, Dr. Chu was the first person in her family to become a physician. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her husband and getting lost in a good book.
