Dr. Annie Chu is a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in advanced gastrointestinal (GI), minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and bariatric surgery. Dr. Chu cares for adults ages 18 and older throughout the Southern Illinois area.

She has extensive training in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgical techniques and provides bariatric, foregut, and general surgical care. Her practice emphasizes advanced minimally invasive approaches that support recovery, improve outcomes, and promote long-term health.

Dr. Chu was drawn to surgery by the opportunity to help people through some of life's most challenging moments. She combines surgical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach that helps patients feel supported throughout their care. Her passion for improving quality of life led her to specialize in bariatric surgery, where she finds it especially rewarding to help patients achieve better health, regain mobility, and return to the activities they enjoy most.

An active researcher, Dr. Chu has authored and presented research on bariatric and metabolic surgery outcomes, surgical oncology, and gastrointestinal diseases at numerous national medical society meetings.

Dr. Chu is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Chu worked as a clinical laboratory scientist and certified phlebotomist. These experiences continue to influence the precision, attention to detail, and empathy she brings to patient care. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her husband and traveling to experience new places and cultures.
